Damage Control

Terms & policies

Effective October 1, 2026.

These terms apply when you request a repair, sell us a device, or buy a device from Damage Control, a business of Evenstar Services LLC (“Damage Control,” “we,” “us”). By sending a request through this site or handing us a device, you agree to them. They're written to be read, so please do.

Repairs & free diagnostics

  • No diagnostic fee. We inspect your device and give you a quote before any paid work. If you decline the quote, you owe nothing.
  • No fix, no pay. If we can't repair it, you don't pay for the repair.
  • You approve the work. We only do paid work you've approved. If we find more problems once the device is open, we'll ask before doing anything more. Quotes are good for 7 days, since part prices change.
  • Parts. We use quality new, aftermarket or refurbished parts. If you need original-manufacturer parts, tell us before you approve the quote; they may cost more or be unavailable. We keep the parts we replace until the repair is paid for, so it can be undone if needed (see Payment); after that they're ours to recycle unless you ask for them back.
  • Damage it already has. Devices that are cracked, bent, dropped, liquid-damaged, have a swollen battery, or were opened or repaired by someone else can fail during inspection or repair, including in ways unrelated to our work (for example the display, Face ID or Touch ID, cameras, or buttons). We take care, but we're not responsible for those failures or for anything that was already failing. Water resistance can't be restored once a device has been opened.
  • Liquid damage. Repairs on liquid-damaged devices are best effort and carry no warranty, because corrosion can keep spreading after a repair.
  • Turnaround. Common repairs, like in-stock screen or battery replacements, are generally done the same day. Most other services are usually a 24 to 48 hour turnaround. These are estimates, not promises; parts can be delayed.
  • Payment. Payment is due when we return your device, before we hand it over. If you can't or would rather not pay for a finished repair, just tell us: we'll take our parts back out, put your original parts back in, and return the device as close as we can to the condition you gave it to us in. Until it's paid for or the repair is undone, we keep the device. Undoing a repair can't always restore everything exactly (adhesive seals and water resistance, for example).
  • Unlock codes. See Your unlock code below.
  • Extras. Please remove SIM and memory cards, cases and accessories; we aren't responsible for items left with a device.

Your data

  • Your unlock code. To repair and test your device, we may ask you to either remove its unlock code (passcode, PIN or pattern) or share it with us. If you share it, we use it only for your repair, and it's purged from our system once the repair is complete. Please don't put an unlock code in a form, email or text message: we'll ask for it when we pick up your device. If you'd rather do neither, some functions can't be tested, and we aren't responsible for functions we couldn't test.
  • Back up first. Diagnostics, repairs and resets can erase data. We aren't responsible for any loss of data, settings, apps or content, whatever the cause.
  • We don't go through your personal content. We access only what we need to test the repair.
  • Some repairs need a reset or software restore. We'll ask first whenever we can.
  • If we ask you to turn off Find My, Activation Lock or a similar lock, some repairs and tests can't be done until you do.
  • Data recovery isn't part of a repair unless we agree to it separately.

Curbside service

  • Our technicians meet you curbside at the spot we agree on: your home, your office, or a public place like a coffee shop. We don't enter residences.
  • Please be there at the agreed time. If we can't reach you within 15 minutes of arriving, we may need to reschedule.
  • You confirm that you own the device, or have the owner's permission to have it repaired.
  • When we bring your device back, check it before we leave and tell us right away if something isn't right.

Pest-contaminated devices

  • Insects such as roaches sometimes take shelter inside electronics, especially warm ones like game consoles, cable boxes and laptops. It can happen in any home, and it's nothing to be embarrassed about.
  • Even a single insect or a few eggs can spread to our tools, our workspace and other customers' devices, and contamination can damage repair equipment. So, as a matter of policy, we don't accept or work on devices that show signs of pests: live or dead insects, eggs, droppings or nesting material.
  • Our technicians take a quick look before accepting a device at pickup. If we see signs of pests, we'll hand it right back. If signs turn up only once a device is opened, we close it up and return it unrepaired. Either way, a pest-contaminated device never enters our repair area.
  • There's no charge for a device we turn away for this reason.
  • The same goes for devices offered for sale: we can't buy a device with signs of pests.
  • Once a device has been professionally cleaned and the source treated, we may be able to take it, at our discretion.

Unclaimed and abandoned devices

  • When your repair is done, or if you decline the quote, we'll contact you to arrange the return.
  • Please arrange the return within 30 days of that first notice. After that, we may charge a storage fee of $5 per day.
  • If the device still isn't claimed 60 days after the first notice, we'll send a final notice to the phone number and email you gave us. If it isn't claimed within 15 days of that final notice (75 days in all), the device is considered abandoned: you give up your rights to it, and we may recycle, sell or otherwise dispose of it to recover our costs, after erasing its data. Unpaid repair charges and fees remain due.
  • Keep your contact details current. Notices sent to the details you gave us count as notice.

Warranty

  • All work and parts are warrantied for 90 days from the day we return your device.
  • If a part we installed fails, or our work was faulty, we'll repair or replace it at no charge. If we can't, we'll refund what you paid for that repair. That is the whole remedy under this warranty.
  • Not covered: physical damage after the service is done (if you drop your phone again, that's not covered), liquid damage, misuse, software problems, accessories, parts or problems we didn't work on, and devices opened or repaired by anyone else after us. Liquid-damaged devices carry no warranty.
  • To make a claim, contact us with your reference number.

Selling a device to us

  • You must own the device, or be authorized to sell it, and be at least 18.
  • You promise the device isn't lost or stolen, reported or blacklisted, financed or leased with a balance owed, or locked to an account. Phones and tablets need a clean IMEI: fully paid off, with no carrier financing, installment plan or lease outstanding. We check serial and IMEI numbers.
  • The device must not be iCloud-locked, activation-locked or otherwise blocked. Before we meet, turn off Find My and sign out of iCloud (on Android, remove your Google account so Factory Reset Protection is off), and sign out of any other accounts: Microsoft, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, DJI and the like.
  • We can't buy devices with signs of pests (see Pest-contaminated devices).
  • Our offer is an estimate based on what you tell us and your photos. The final price is set when we inspect the device in person, and may change.
  • We may ask for a government-issued photo ID and keep a record of the sale, as the law requires.
  • Remove SIM and memory cards and erase the device (or we can do that together when we meet). We'll erase anything left, but we aren't responsible for data left on a device you sell us.
  • Once you're paid, the sale is final and the device is ours. If it turns out to be stolen, financed, blacklisted or locked, you agree to refund the full price, and we may report it to law enforcement.

Buying a device from us

  • Our devices are pre-owned, tested and cleaned, and described as accurately as we can. Photos show the actual device unless the listing says otherwise.
  • Inspect the device when we meet. Payment is due when we hand it over. A device is held for you only once we confirm the hold.
  • 14-day guarantee: if the device develops a hardware fault within 14 days that wasn't caused by damage, liquid or misuse, we'll repair it, replace it, or refund the price, at our choice. Batteries are listed with their health and wear with use.
  • Otherwise all sales are final, and devices are sold as is, without any other warranty, to the extent the law allows. Check with your carrier that the device works on its network before you buy.

Text messages

  • If you tick the texting box on a form, Damage Control will text you updates about that request at the number you gave. Message frequency varies with your request.
  • Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time, or HELP for help. Agreeing to texts isn't a condition of service.
  • We don't sell your number or share it with anyone for their marketing.

Privacy

  • What we collect: your name, phone number or email, proposed meeting spot, details and photos of your devices, and the messages we exchange.
  • Why: to answer your request, quote, repair, buy or sell devices, arrange meetups, honor warranties, and keep business records.
  • Who sees it: our staff, and service providers that help us run the site, email and payments. We don't sell your personal information. We share it otherwise only when the law requires.
  • How long: as long as we need it for your service, warranty and our records, then we delete it. To ask us to delete your information sooner, email hello@idamagecontrol.com; we'll delete what we aren't required to keep.
  • Photos: please keep personal information out of the photos you send; we use them only to assess the device.
  • Cookies: this site uses only the cookies it needs to work. No advertising or tracking cookies.

The fine print

  • Limit of liability. To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim about a repair, a purchase or a sale is limited to the amount you paid us for it, and we aren't liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, including lost data, lost profits or loss of use.
  • We may refuse service at our discretion, including for devices we suspect are stolen.
  • We're an independent repair shop. Brand and device names (Apple, iPhone, iPad, MacBook, Samsung, Galaxy, Google, Pixel, Sony, PlayStation, Microsoft, Xbox, Nintendo, Switch, DJI and others) are used only to describe the devices we work on; they belong to their owners, who don't sponsor, endorse or authorize us.
  • These terms are governed by Texas law. Any dispute will be handled in Travis County, Texas.
  • We may update these terms. The version in effect when you sent your request applies to it.
